REVIEW: I called code services because of the numerous problems I had experienced at my home. Betty still has not brought the place up to code standards. She has tried trying to get me kicked out of my Section 8 numerous times. Every month, there is something wrong with the place. Last week, she was out of town; the city sent me a letter stating that there is a water leak somewhere in the house. This is because I went from using 11 units to 149 units over the course of a month. Of course, I could not stay in the house because I have 5 small children and did not want their health to be affected by everything. When she returned, she gave me a 5 day eviction notice, yelling and cussing at me in front of my little kids. My lease is up next month. In the lease, it states I can make installment payment for the security deposit, however she is trying to take away my Section 8 voucher because I have not paid the deposit in full yet. Even then, she has not kept the place up to code, putting me in an unsafe living situation with my kids.

REVIEW: They sued us for damages we didn't do. Took us to court, never sent the paper they were suppose to, summoned us again. I have all the paperwork if there's any way to use that. Thank the lord we aren't with them any longer. But they took everything we had and then some. And we had a newborn.

LANDLORD/PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY: VillaFay

REVIEW: We had raccoons living in our house and she never took care of it throughout the whole year. She just denied that they were there. Additionally we are having issues with the move out and will probably not get our security deposit back from her.

LANDLORD/PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY: Frontier Property Managment

REVIEW: They are trying to hold my roommates and I responsible for a years worth of rent for a property that we never moved into because it had 22 code violations when we were supposed to move in. We provided a failure to deliver notice and formally terminated our lease but they have failed to acknowledge any of our actions. They are trying to send the debt to collections even though they owe us our security deposit and first months rent from the property.

LANDLORD/PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY: Centerline (Capstone 3D)

REVIEW: Detached garage is rented out as storage space to a seprate tenant on a seprate lease. However, his eccentricity and gas are hooked up to the house and we were paying for it. Landlords didn't even bother to try and figure this out. We had to sue them and spent 6 months dealing with this issue.

REVIEW: I never received a contract when I began occupying my home. While living there we experienced significant delays in service requests, and dealt with mid-large sized animals consistently.

We’ve noticed something about the power dynamic of renting, particularly in Manhattan. Businesses have places like Yelp to let the world know about how great (or terrible) their service is. Professors have things like Rate My Professor, so students know who to take classes from. But there isn’t really a great space for renters to know if their landlord is particularly terrible or not. So, we have created this space to help level the playing field.
